Visiting Us for the First Time? Here's What to Expect:
What should I wear to church?
We believe God is much more interested in your heart than your clothes! You'll find an entire gamut of dress at Christ the King, from T-shirts and shorts to traditional "Sunday best." Come as you are. We're pleased to welcome you!
Can you accommodate my small children?
There are many people at Christ the King who are - or were - parents of small children. We're very understanding of small children who might not be able to sit still or remain quiet for an entire worship service. We understand. There won't be any scornful looks of judgment if your child makes some noise. We have age-appropriate activity bags to help keep kids occupied during the service, and we also offer a nursery for children ages 5 and under, complete with a video feed of the service, if you're more comfortable with that.
On most non-communion Sundays, the pastor delivers a Children's Message after the sermon, and children are invited to come forward to participate. We want your child to feel welcome, but if you or they are not comfortable coming up to the front (with or without you), they are equally as welcome to remain in their seats with you.

What time should I arrive?
If you have children in Grade 6 or younger, we invite you to arrive at 9:00 am. Your children can participate in the Sunday School opening and meet other children in our church.
At 9:30 am, Children's Sunday School continues, and we start our Youth (Grades 7-12) and Adult Bible Study sessions.
Our Worship Service begins at 10:30 am, and typically concludes 60-75 minutes thereafter. Don't forget to allow a little time after the service to partake in refreshments and to give us a chance to get to know each other better.

What kind of church service will I find at Christ the King?
We follow a liturgy, or an order of service, as do many Lutheran churches. While the parts of the liturgy may seem random, they're all based on verses from the Bible. Traditionally, we find the liturgy in the front of the Lutheran Service Book, which is found in the racks of the pews (benches). If you're "old school," you're invited to use the Lutheran Service Book to follow along with the liturgy, and the words and music of the hymns that we sing. For those who prefer an easier way to participate in the service, we also put the liturgy and the words to the hymns on screens at the front of the sanctuary.
The music you will hear in our worship service is a traditional style. Our singing is accompanied by an organ or a piano, and sometimes other instruments.
The pastor preaches a sermon each Sunday that focuses on the Word of God and its application to our lives today.

Do you pass a collection plate in church? Am I expected to give?
We don't expect first-time visitors to give to Christ the King.
We do pass the collection plates through the congregation after the sermon as a way to give back some of what has been given to us by making financial contributions to our church. If you are moved to give an offering, you should feel free to do so. If you don't wish to give, simply allow the ushers with the offering plates to pass by you as they take up the collection.

Do you celebrate the Lord's Supper (Holy Communion)?
At Christ the King, we celebrate Holy Communion (the Lord's Supper) on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Sundays of the month.
The Lord’s Supper is celebrated at Christ the King in the confession and glad confidence that, as He says, our Lord gives into our mouths not only bread and wine but His very body and blood to eat and to drink for the forgiveness of sins and to strengthen our union with Him and with one another. Our Lord invites to His table those who trust His words, repent of all sin, and set aside any refusal to forgive and love as He forgives and loves us, that they may show forth His death until He comes.
Because those who eat and drink our Lord’s body and blood unworthily do so to their harm and because Holy Communion is a confession of the faith which is confessed at this altar, any who are not yet instructed, in doubt, or who hold a confession differing from that of this congregation and The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod, and yet desire to receive the sacrament, are asked first to speak with the pastor or an elder.

Will you try to pressure me into joining your church?
We would love to have you make Christ the King your church home, but we won't pressure you!
We will try to be friendly, talk to you, introduce ourselves, and try to find out more about you. Jesus tells us to treat everyone with love and respect. We'll invite you to stay after the service for refreshments and fellowship, so we can spend a little time getting to know you better.
It is our sincere hope that you will find Christ the King to be a place where the Word of God is proclaimed, and the Sacraments are rightly administered. If you do, we'll look forward to welcoming you back soon!
